Im yet to see a "talking bassline" that sounds as good and without blatant use of the characteristic cheapness of "Talkwah" or "WOW Filter" that adds terrible resonances to articulate the vowels. The already discussed growl on "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites and Scatta", which makes the rest of mid-range work on the rest of brostep productions sound cheap and outdated as the main thing. The thing that makes so much people interested with "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" it's not really the production per se (which is still pretty damn good and above most brostep productions out there) but the actual sounds.

This is why you or the other guys claiming amateurs can sound as good have failed to post a Youtube link proving it.Įxactly, like I said, First of the Month is where you really start noticing that crispness, and richness of a pro mixdown/mastering. And with "First of the Year" first then "Bangarang" you get finally that really polished, top-chart/radio banger sound where the involvement of professionals is even more obvious. With "Scary Monsters an Nice Sprites" you get that shift in sound and specially sound design where you can notice something out of the ordinary happened. It sounds good, the arrangements of a guy with decent talent are there, but thats about it. It has that sound were practically everyone reaches their best by working alone with minimum equipement and no special networkings (aka the average dog at the grid and every other bedroom producer). "My Name is Skrillex" is as good as Sonny could get in a really "bedroom producer" environment.

And even if he wasn't using any of the expensive ass gear, notice how he is surrounded by professionals with years of expertise that are willing to help him with guidance at any given time? This, for production, then add the best in the game (Noisia) giving tips on sound design and on production as well specifically for this genre in which they are at the top, and you tell me you can call Sonny an average bedroom producer like the rest who just got better with practice and trial and error only.
He isn't sporting his "I produce on headphones" headphones, so he is using top end monitors in a perfect acoustically treated room.
